Samba Olywa Sunflowers in the 2024 Procession of the Species!

Samba Olywa (based in OLYmpia, WAshington) is an amateur percussion and dance group dedicated to building community through the learning and sharing of Samba and other rhythms. We provide the opportunity for anyone, regardless of experience, to join us as we take our spirited and joyous energy to the streets and to the stage.

Samba Olywa rehearses most Sundays from 5 – 7pm at Eagles Grand Ballroom, 4th & Plum Streets, in Olympia. All are welcome to drum or dance with our group, regardless of prior experience! We ask a $5 - $10 donation per week to help cover our expenses. Check out our current schedule, and like us, on Facebook.

Our group began in 1995 as a joyful musical addition to the Procession of the Species, the Olympia community’s honoring of the natural world through music, art, and dance. Soon, invitations to perform at other events came our way. Over the years, Samba Olywa has performed at the Northwest Folklife Festival, high school and college graduations, farmer’s market openings, and local events such as a neighborhood Halloween celebration. We are also available for hire for private events.

Samba Olywa is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. To donate, visit our Donations page.

Samba Olywa is proud to announce a grant award has been approved from Inspire Olympia.  This is the money from the Cultural Access 1/10 of 1% that was voted last year.  Funds are used for Arts, Culture, Heritage, and Science.  We thank the City of Olympia for the grant which will be used to help us grow in many ways.  Samba Olywa is always open to all members of the community regardless of race, religion, gender orientation, or financial means.  Please share the news as one of our goals is to increase membership!!

Join Samba Olywa for the 2025 Procession of the Species! The Procession will be in late April TBD. Rehearsals begin in March 2025.
